Charles Boney, FAIA Senior Project Manager Vice President / Principal Charles Boney began his service to the firm in 1978, interrupted by a 2-year graduate program at the University of Pennsylvania. In returning to the firm, he pursued winning commissions for the firm’s well-established education sector. His work quickly expanded to include medical expertise with the design of the first ambulatory surgery center in southeastern North Carolina and significant additions to the area’s regional hospitals. Charles served as principal architect for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools’ Governors’ Village, an award-winning, innovative approach to educational design which created for a “village” for over 4,800 students. He was principal architect for Union County Schools’ Weddington High School, which led to over $100M in further design work for this client. His work encompasses numerous comprehensive renovation projects, including three schools designed by the firm in 1924 and the award-winning Thalian Hall historic theatre renovations. Higher education clients include numerous community colleges and UNC at Wilmington. Charles’ civic expertise includes several police buildings, government renovation projects, municipal buildings, and town halls.
