This renovation project transformed a 1980’s era medical office building into a bright, kid-friendly space that is easy to navigate for families and efficient for providers. The project demolished an outdated three-story atrium and relocated building entries to highly visible exterior locations, creating additional usable square footage and program space in the process.

The program consolidates multiple specialty children’s clinics under one roof including urgent care, oncology and infusion, GI and feeding, allergy, pulmonology, lab, and pharmacy. The new design not only brought the facility up to UNCHC on stage/off stage clinic design standards and addressed code and accessibility issues, but also created a welcoming environment for patients and families. The eye-catching wall graphics and color-coded pathways to assist with wayfinding and reduce the stress of a clinical visit, with interior elements inspired by North Carolina’s coastal, piedmont, and mountain regions.
