This $17,794,000, 96,742-square-foot, three-story, L-shaped, Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQs) barracks building at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida provides living accommodations for 220 Navy Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) personnel attending the EOD School at Eglin AFB. Each of the 110 suites provides two private sleeping rooms, walk-in closets, a shared bathroom and kitchenette.
The building exterior design is modern, precise, and well proportioned. The exterior facade features split-face masonry with accent bands, blast -resistant fixed windows, and a roof system of standing seam metal roofing, fascia and soffit, and pre-finished metal gutters and downspouts. The three-story glazed entrance element clearly centers the building and provides entry identity. Protective canopies are provided at the main entrance and at stair exits.
The relationship of the “L” shaped building design to the roadway system, parking lots and site improvement is well organized and highly functional. Force protection stand-offs are maintained. A protective barricade is provided at the 82-foot set-back line on East Eglin Boulevard. Emergency vehicle access is provided to three sides of the building including two residential wings.
This project is LEED Silver, includes Comprehensive Interior Design (CID) and site infrastructure developments to include site grading, utilities, roads and parking.
