LS3P provided advance planning, programming, and design for the $69 million new College of Health Sciences Complex. Located on a 9-acre parcel of land adjacent to the Watauga Medical Center, the complex features of a 203,000 GSF, 5-story academic building, and associated site-work including a landscaped student plaza, 320 surface parking spaces, and offsite road improvements.
The building’s complex program elements provide lab space for diverse programs such as anatomy and physiology, human performance, body composition, biomechanics, sports psychology, athletic training, physical therapy, and nutrition. Specialized spaces include nursing skills/simulation labs, a cadaver lab, instructional clinic space, and counseling assessment areas. The facility accommodates training spaces for the Wake Forest University School of Medicine Physician’s Assistant program, hearing and speech programs, and wellness and health promotions programs.
The facility also features classrooms, lecture spaces, administrative and faculty offices, and student amenities such study spaces and a commons area. With programs co-located in the same building, different disciplines can receive experiential training together in shared simulation laboratories, assessment and training rooms.
