In 1999, The Bissell Companies commissioned LS3P to master plan and design the hotel, clubhouse, conference center, golf school and spa for an “urban resort” envisioned for the corporate business park at their 2,000-acre planned community, Ballantyne. The centerpiece of the resort is the 18-hole golf course, that runs through Ballantyne Corporate Business Park.
The complex was built in an L-shaped configuration around the 18th hole of the golf course. The first phase of the resort was the three-story clubhouse, which houses the pro-shop, locker rooms, grill room, bar and the resort’s initial meeting rooms and kitchen facilities. Phase Two consisted of the 216-room full service hotel and 42,000 SF conference center. Public areas of the hotel center around the two-story colonnaded main lobby and focus panoramic views to the 18th fairway and overall course. The conference center is a two-level facility featuring a 6,500 SF ballroom and assorted meeting rooms organized around a main gallery within a grand monumental stair overlooking the 18th green. Phase Three, completed summer 2002, consists of the 18,000 SF two-level full service spa. The spa further complements the amenities of the resort and ties directly into the hotel’s grotto pool and fitness center.
