Spartanburg Community College Center for Advanced Manufacturing and Industrial TechnologiesGaffney, SC “This building is going to make a big difference” Daryl Smith, Executive Director This 27,000 SF mechatronics facility houses state-of-the-art training spaces for machine tooling, welding, PLC, robotics, electrical engineering, and CNC programs. The building, designed to accommodate future expansion, also includes administrative offices, computer labs, and student lounges in a light-filled interior. The design celebrates the school’s industrial curriculum with details such as exposed cross-bracing and mechanical components, dynamic angled wall panels, and transparency of spaces which puts the building’s academic programs on full view. Roll-up doors serve as window, wall, and entry facilitate easy handling of large materials, and metal and glass curtain walls at key gathering spots reinforce the indoor/outdoor connection.
