The 120,646 SF, six-floor MUSC College of Dental Medicine is a teaching facility with a clinical component. The general clinic operatory design concept focuses on providing state-of-the-art dental operatories with optimal visualization for instructors as well as access to daylight and views for all occupants of the clinics. Typical floors have 40+ operatories for hands-on skills practice on patients and include an Oral Surgery suite with 5 specialized procedure rooms, a 14-bay Endodontic area, and other specialized dental clinics. The building houses residency programs, specialty dentistry research areas, a large central sterile department, student spaces, and administration. Each floor contains break-out seminar spaces and study areas for residents.
The restorative dentistry floor contains 42 open operatories and a 1,400 SF state-of-the-art prosthodontic laboratory space. A central imaging department with CT capabilities serves the college, with satellite imaging centers on each floor.
