East Carolina University Student Services BuildingGreenville, NC This new 240,000 SF Student Services building provides a “one-stop shop” to consolidate student-facing services such as financial aid, academic advising and support, career advising, admissions, and the Registrar’s office under one roof. The new facility streamlines the admissions and registration process for students, and provides welcoming, student-centered gathering spaces while reinforcing the campus brand. The exterior palette of brick, metal panel, and curtainwall integrates the three-story building into the existing campus environment; rhythmic fenestration and details such as subtle use of brick pattern and color help to create a human scale. A brick knee wall along the facade defines the outdoor space while providing informal seating, with metal canopies to frame the entry. A full-height metal and glass entry volume brings natural light into the space during the day and provides a welcoming campus glow at night. Circulation inside the volume animates the space, while the interior walls provide opportunities for university branding at the prominent corner. Inside, the reception area helps direct students to student service areas, while the light-filled interior highlights the university’s bright colors and offers visual connections between spaces for wayfinding.
