This renovation project for the headquarters for one of the world’s leading gypsum wallboard producers transformed a tightly constrained space into a modern, crisp, welcoming facility with a spacious new entry, exhibit space, employee dining, and a flexible multipurpose meeting room.

To overcome existing spatial constraints, the design incorporates every available building element into the overall scheme with exposed structure, floating soffits to raise the ceiling height, and a defining gypsum board ring linking the public spaces together. The new space not only equips the client with state-of-the-art facilities, but also displays the versatility of the client’s products. Windows added to the first floor exterior provide human-scale details in a previously blank wall, and a courtyard with dining terrace opens the building to the exterior. A distinctive National Gypsum red band extends through the building into the new courtyard, and the red and yellow company colors are used as accents throughout the space.
