This 36,000 SF renovation and 36,000 SF addition for the 1970s-era Kennedy Hall provides a home for updated, expanded health sciences and nursing programs for Sandhills Community College. The design knits together the campus fabric on a site previously occupied by a large parking lot, contributing to a better pedestrian experience and a new gateway to the east side of the campus. The building integrates contextual materials from its campus surroundings, and its form and massing complements the scale of adjacent buildings.

The layout of the addition features a central “spine” corridor that organizes the building and continues the existing circulation path from Kennedy Hall. The interior aesthetic is bright, clean and modern, with a barrel roof and clerestory to bring natural light deep into the space.
