LS3P and LMN partnered on the programming and design for this major addition and renovation to the McColl Building for the Kenan Flagler School of Business. The 165,000 GSF addition and 130,000 GSF renovation will support burgeoning undergraduate enrollment growth, update existing classrooms, and consolidate staff currently located off site in lease space. Project work will also consider land planning impacts related to increased parking and civil engineering and utility infrastructure. The contextual, complex and sustainable landscape design involves multiple tiered plazas, rain gardens, and a bioretention pond.
The design concept provides a strong connection between the McColl building and the campus, creating a range of outdoor spaces and maintaining expansive views to nature. The concept also defines a clear circulation route for both pedestrians and vehicles, and will provide ample parking capacity to support expanded programming.
